TBU Innsbruck: What Did The Attendees Think?

Innsbruck

The second Travel Bloggers Unite (TBU) Conference has been and gone,  running over 5 jam-packed days (24th-28th August) in the western Austrian city of Innsbruck. Delegates from all corners of Europe and further afield enjoyed city-wide photographic tours, presentations from the experts and lively discussion, and somehow still managed to find the time to party their socks off.

So what did they get from the experience?

  • Isabelle Kenis summarises key presentations, including links to slideshows and video footage…
  • For Kate McCulley, aka. Adventurous Kate, it was about the PR perspective. As with the first TBU event in Manchester earlier this year, the PR agencies had a say (and a presentation) – in Manchester by Dru Bryan of gosh PR, and in Innsbruck by Ruth Haffenden of Four bgb
  • Abigail King gave a talk on the lessons of print media and the craft of travel writing – and later picked up a community award for the quality of hers…
  • For Kash Bhattacharya, inspiration and gratitude in being involved in such a rapidly-evolving (yet still fledgling) industry was the big take-home…
  • For Paul Corbett, TBU Innsbruck was the second part in a comprehensive travel-blogging education that began for him in Manchester…
  • Anthony Middleton treasured the friendships and professional connections he made, and the profound value of spending a weekend discussing “the bleeding obvious” – the things that travel bloggers should be focussing on to develop their brand, but rarely are, because they’re, like, so obvious
  • Kirsten Alana did some frankly amazing things with her camera and iPhone, and then showed everyone what she’d done on the streets of Innsbruck and in her own presentation…
  • Jayne of Flight Centre UK couldn’t get enough of the jaw-dropping scenery, and was grateful for all the heated discussion (which is always a sign that people really care)…
  • Jools Stone (winner of Best Niche Blog for his Trains On The Brain) was predictably entranced by the Innsbruck Funicular…
  •  …and newly-freelanced writer Maxine Sheppard connected, connected, connected, and pondered the dangers of bloggers getting too hung up on metrics and intra-community matters when their real audience was outside it.

All attendees seem agreed – a worthy second act. Next up? TBU 2012: Umbria!

Were you an attendee at TBU Innsbruck and have you written up your thoughts on the event? We’d love to read them. Leave us a link in the comments. Thanks!
