Twitter gets Tweet

The Wall Street Journal reports that an advertising company called Twittad has agreed to give up its registered trademark rights to the word “tweet”, thereby clearing the way for Twitter to own it.

The word tweet appeared in Twittad’s strapline, “Let your ad meet tweets” and had caused the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office to twice turn down Twitter’s bid for the word.
