Londoners may find their public transport and nightlife scenes a little bit more packed with beautiful people between the 17th and the 24th of February this year as London Fashion Week descends. Tourism generated by Fashion Week promoting London as a shopping destination is unprecedented. Fashion has adds an estimated £21billion in value to the British economy every year, which grows to £37billion when extended business including tourism is included.
Fashion has always had a notoriously luxurious image, and with it comes a great boost to luxury tourism. Fashion week visitors spend a great deal of time in Bicester Village for their shopping needs, with brands such as Armani, Gucci, Ralph Lauren and Dolce & Gabbana all in attendance.
Whether or not English travel writers and bloggers take notice of the local event remains to be seen, but international bloggers will certainly be clambering to cover the event as it unfolds.
Travelllll.com sat down with Charing Cross Hotel’s concierge to ask a man at the heart of the week’s luxury travel experience what he thought of the event and the essential information for visitors to London throughout.
In your opinion, what do Fashionable Londoners get up to during London fashion week?
“Mostly, unsurprisingly, shopping! As well as attending the fashion shows. The Concierge team does get me more requests for directions to the more high-end fashion districts such as Regent Street, Bond Street and Jermyn Street.”
What would you consider to be a London luxury fashion experience for Fashion Week tourists?
“A great luxury shopping experience would be the ‘Wonder Room’ at Selfridges. As they put it themselves, the Wonder Room is ‘a luxury gifts emporium with the energy of a souk’.”
Where, in your opinion, is the best luxury shopping in London?
“You can easily start at Covent Garden, walk past Leicester Square on to Regent Street. Walk up north towards Oxford Circus, but you can take a left wherever you want to find yourself on Bond Street.”
“If you stay on Regent Street, you can continue your shopping spree by taking a left and walk all the way down Oxford Street. By this time, you are probably quite hungry.”
“Before you leave Oxford Street, make sure to create your own picnic which you can enjoy in Hyde Park. After a relaxing walk from Marble Arch to Hyde Park corner, conclude your day with a visit to Harrods.”
